Given time and curricular constraints, how are you creating a space to extend student literacy learning?

My students participate in an independent reading program called reading counts. Students choose their own books from a list of 50,000 plus titles and read independently. Students then must pass a ten question on-line quiz. I have found this program to enrich students reading comprehension and enjoyment of reading. By adding the element of choice, students are able to read something meaningful to them, instead of an assigned book that bores them. I track the types of books students choose and help guide students in the right direction, but the choice is theirs. Students seem more motivated to read and become engaged in the reading when they choose the book.
